She is one of the most recognised names in the world of equestrianism. Ellen is a member of the world famous Whitaker dynasty, fitting in the family tree as the eldest daughter of Carole and Steven Whitaker. She grew up in Yorkshire with her parents and three younger brothers Joe, Thomas and Donald Whitaker. She started competing at the age of 5 and over the years has progressed through the ranks of her sport, gaining a huge following and becoming a household name in the showjumping world.
Ellen has numerous prestigious wins and accomplishments to her name starting with pony jumping, to juniors and young rider accomplishments until she was soon performing at the highest level of the sport aged 19.
Ellen Has completed 6 European Championships bringing home 3 Championship medals. And with an impressive record of wins in Grand Prixs, Nations Cups, Derby’s, Speed stakes and Puissance, she demonstrates a true horse woman.
She has competed alongside her family in 2 major championships. The European Championships in San Patrigano (ITA) aged 19 with her uncle John Whitaker and European Championships in Mannheim (GER) aged 21 along side Uncles John and Michael Whitaker, the Whitaker’s making up 3 out of 4 members of the championship team. Ellen together with horse Locarno 62, jumped a triple clear to contribute towards a team Bronze medal which qualified Team GB for the Beijing Olympics.
When she was 18 she made headlines after finishing 2nd in the infamous Hickstead Derby on Locarno 62 who was 8 at the time to her uncle John Whitaker .
She has won the Hickstead speed derby twice. Both times partnered with Henri de here.
Ellen has won Horse of the year show Grand Prix , The British Open and Linz CSIO 5* amongst many more on Ocolado. She has also won the speed horse of the year at the Horse of the year show 4 times.
When Ellen was 16 she qualified for 5 star World Cup show, London’s Olympia. She competed there amongst the world’s best. Kanselier gave her that magnificent opportunity after winning the only qualifier at Addington manor. She first competed at Olympia in the under 25 final at 13 aboard Jaspers Gold.
Ladina B was her puissance partner, winning at Olympia, Hoys, Madrid and many more. A very popular class with the crowd.
Ellen has two sons Harry Steven Marinas Whitaker 17-05-2014 and Frankie Thomas Marinas Whitaker 20-03-2016.
Having children has been the greatest gift and the greatest challenge, and I am happy and grateful for every moment of it. I am lucky to have a lot of support from my family and a great team of staff to enable me to be a mum and a sportswoman to the best of my ability
